Statoil's LNG (liquiefied natural gas) plant at the island "Melkoya" near the city of Hammerfest, in northern Norway. ABB has delivered a complete range of power and automation products and systems to the gas processing plant that became operational in 2007. Gas from the "Snohvit" (Snow white) gas field is recovered through subsea templates, transported in pipelines to the plant, where the gas is cooled down until it becomes liquefied and ready for transport by ship.

Safeguard

Safeguard was the very first integrated safety system – developed by ABB almost 30 years ago.

It is installed in more than 500 offshore applications worldwide.  Safeguard is certified for SIL3 according to the IEC 51508 standard.  It can be installed as a separate safety system or integrated with our System 800xA control system.
