Korean MEPS

The Korean MEPS scheme was announced by Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy (MOCIE) and it is being implemented in three phases from 1.7.2008. ABB has certified cast iron motors according to Korean MEPS.

What is Korean MEPS?

Korean MEPS was introduced in three phases and is valid for the following motors (IE2):

  • 2008 - 2010: 0.75 kW - 200 kW, 2 - 4 poles, up to 600 V 60 Hz
  • 2008 - 2010: 0.75 kW - 160 kW, 6 poles
  • 2010 - 2011: 0.75 kW - 110 kW, 8 poles
  • Concerns all DOL and VSD three phase motors including motors for explosive atmospheres
Efficiency measuring method is according to IEC 60034-2-1:2007.
.
Timetable? Preliminary plans:

Stage 1 on January 1, 2015
  • Motors with rated output of 37kW - 200kW motors must meet the IE3 efficiency level
Stage 2 on January 1, 2016
  • Motors with rated output of 15kW - 37 kW must meet the IE3 efficiency level
Stage 3 on January 1, 2017
  • Motors with a rated output of 0.75 - 15 kW must meet the IE3 efficiency level

How to mark the motors?
Motor must be certified by KEMCO and provided with a specific sticker identifying the motor type, pole number, power, efficiency and CO2 emissions per hour. Stickers are fixed on the fan cover.
.
What is excluded?
The following motor types are excluded from the Korean MEPS:
  • Totally Enclosed Non-Ventilated (TENV) motors
  • Totally Enclosed Air-Over (TEAO) motors
  • 2-speed motors
  • Thrust and sleeve bearing motors
  • Permanent magnet motors
  • VSD motors driving other than fans, pumps and blowers e.g. agitators, compressors, mills, cranes, extruders
  • Motors intended for re-export
