Australian MEPS

Australian MEPS has been valid from 2001. It is one of the oldest energy efficiency program for LV motors. The requirements were updated in 2006. ABB offers a full range of motors complying with MEPS and a broad range of motors complying with voluntary HE MEPS. This offer consists of both standard motors and motors for explosive atmospheres.


What is Australian MEPS?
Australian MEPS applies to 0,73 - 185 kW, 2 - 8 pole motors (up to 1100 V).
All low voltage motors, including motors for explosive atmospheres, are included.
Motor efficiency must meet the specified level in AS/NZS 1359.5:2004 both at 100% and 75% load. Motors not fulfilling AU High efficiency levels cannot be marketed as high efficiency motors.

How to mark the motors?
Motor must be registered to the Interactive Product List which can be found from the government website: www.energyrating.gov.au.
Motors imported without registration are subject to high penalties. Seller is responsible for ensuring that offered motors comply.

What is excluded?
The following motors are excluded from Australian MEPS:
  • Submersible motors
  • Integral motor-gear system
  • Variable or multi-speed motors
  • Motors rated for only short cycles, e.g. S2.
